Umbilical cord help....PLEASE HELP!?!?!?

my mother recently had a baby,the babies umbilical cord fell off in the hospital and they never told my mother about it (this happened about 9 days ago) ..then yesterday we went to the doctor and she put like a long medicated stick in the babies bellyon,saying it was not fully healed,but today we noticed yellow stuff leaking out of it....how can this be healed?....(my doctor isn't helpful,so are there suggestions other then her???)
